Getting Tubes in the ear.... Can anyone tell me your experience

My son is 13 months old. He has had constant ear infections since Jan and the ped finally sent us to an ENT. Well she did a hearing test and a test on the ear drums and found minor hearing loss (which I am not sure how they figure that out from a 1 year old) and his ear drums were barely moving. So they of course suggested Tubes. So I am nervous and would like to hear about anyone else experience with these. I know this isn't a real big deal and is done all the time. But he has already had a very tough life at 13 months. He had surgery to take out parts of his skull so his brain could grow at 3 months. Wore a helmet for 9 months and has spent many of nights in the hospital as when he gets sick, he gets really sick. I am a tired mama. Plus we have unexpected #3 on the way in oct. Ok so that turned in to more of a vent... I really want to know about your experience with kids and tubes in the ear.

I am a 23 year old mother to Jaidyn, a daughter born 01/07/04 who is my angel, I had her at 17 and assume responsiblity of her with ease. I belived she saved me from a very dark road. To this day she is very smart and very straight forward, and Gerry a son born 02/26/09 who is a miracle baby we thought we would never be able to concieve. He had Craniosynostis on the Sagittal Suture, Diagnosed May 13, 2009, Surgery date June 2, 2009.  A third baby on the way in October. :)  I am in love with my fiance Jake . I am a baby-wearing, going to try ERF, tried to BF but is now FF, pro-life with the exceptions in medical risk, incest, rape, and extreme situations, but don't judge your choices, public schooling, circumsied my son and could care less what you do with your son, a firm beliver in your child, your choice, was a teen-mom who graduated with a bachlor's degree in Accounting in May 2008 and is currently working on a Master's in Business Administration. I can't stand liars, drug-users, child abusers, and deatbeat parents who refuse to take care of their children. Don't tell me how to raise my kids and I won't tell you how to raise yours.

My little man had them at 2 1/2.(He is now 4) My niece had them at about the same age (about a month ago)

The difference for both of them was amazing. My Kael started talking more and better. My niece began learnign faster and is now almost potty trained. Kael has not had an infection since then. It is great!

they will give you information on the tubes as well. read all of it and research on your own

I personally have never heard of a case where someone got the tubes in the ears and didn't regret it.I didn't realize they were still pushing those tubes.

personally, if western medicine suggests something I question, I see about chinese medicine. Even if I was to go with a western med procedure (and I do from time to time) then I would get treated with chinese medicine before and after to make sure I was as strong as possible.

I know your child is young, but I personally would never have a procedure of much of any kind done on a child without consulting a qualified Chinese medical individual  first- much less invasive.

I have had too many tube operations myself. It was discovered I had a hearing issue when I was 3. I did not speak properly and would read lips. Cereal- cisicil, ice cream- mecream, my name Diana- Yanna, spoon- poon.. and so on.  They found I had issues in both ears.. and they decided to place tubes in both canals.  I am now 33.. and I now have a brand new eardrum in my left ear.. a myrongotomy(spelling- sorry). They took tissue from above my left ear.. compounded that down and made a new drum. I also had to have a special tube placed inside my eardrum.. a T-tube.  My tubes do not like to stay in my ears.

I have had a total of 20 ear surgeries for tubes and cleaning while under sedation. I dont "do" eardrops.. as I had a major reaction one year..and that did it for me.  I no longer see regular doctors..only ENT specialists.  I have tone deafness in both ears in varying degrees. My ears lost vibration..  and I dont even know when I have an ear infection.

I can tell you.. I would not be able to hear if I didnt have them.  I have had perferations (holes) in my eardrums and scarring.  I was already told I will eventually have to have my right ear drum replaced at some point..

It is alot to deal with..  I lip read as a 6th sense.. I have had to have tonsils removed and adnoids removed as well..to help alleviate the pressure on my ears.

I dont mean to be long in my "story".. but I wanted to give you a viewpoint of an adult with a great history with this issue.

I highly recomend a specialist to look at your child. Get a second opinion.. and research what you feel is best for your situation.

Good Luck! and hope your little one does well with things!
