My son dresses up like a girl...

My son is 3, and he loves dressing himself up like a girl. You'll usually find him running around in a snow white costume, ballerina costume and tights, or in one of his sisters' dresses. DF and his dad (my x) both get all bent out of shape about it. I say, he's 3 and he's having fun, and he doesn't know about gender specific roles yet, so what's the big deal? He likes playing with  his back hoes and cranes and tractors just as much!

That's him normally...

This is him in a ballerina costume and tights.

Personally, I think it's funny, and will make great blackmail photos when he's a teenager lol!

What do you think, ladies?

I don't think boys should be in dresses.

My 2.5yr old son, likes to play with my makeup and stuff. I dont stop him. He only has a few years to be totally free and have a ball before reality bites him in the ass!!

I say if the kids are having fun...let them!

Nothing wrong with it at all---if he is just playing around with sisters, etc. If he does it when he's 6 and seems to prefer that to all other types of play, there's nothing wrong with it either, but he may be "assigning" himself his gender role at that point. My friend and I used to do this when he was 5-6 years old. He LOVED it...where his brothers did not...and he turned out to be a very nice looking gay man.  At a certain age, it may be a sign of something more.

The funny thing is, though, that if our girls wanted to play dress up and dress up like a construction worker or a fireman, typical male roles, the guys wouldn't have any problem with that. Why the double standard?

He is adorable!  My son likes to pretend he is a ballerina too.  He has no siblings so no sister's clothes to borrow.  My hubby is okay for the most part but my FIL is hung up on doing things that might make him "G-A-Y" (they spell it out, lol).

I think he's too cute! Or, as my DS says, "tooo oot!" He's three. If he wants to be a spaceman with a spaghetti strainer on his head, let him. if he wants to be a ballerina, have at it.
