Ingredients

  • 2 (11 ounce) cans mandarin orange segments, drained
  • 2 (15.25 ounce) cans fruit cocktail, drained
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 2 cups miniature marshmallows
  • 2 cups flaked coconut
  • 1 (8 ounce) container sour cream

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the oranges, fruit cocktail, walnuts, marshmallows, and coconut. Fold in the sour cream. Chill for at least an hour, and stir again before serving.

You can omit the walnuts and it's still pretty good.

We have a family favorite that we call "Throw Up Salad"  because that's what it looks like.

Ours is something like this:

  • 2 cups cottage cheesecottcheesesld
  • 1 large can (or 2 small) mandarin oranges (drained)
  • 1 small package of orange jello
  • 1/2 container cool-whip, thawed (about 2 cups)

In a medium sized bowl measure the cottage cheese. Drain the fruit and add it to the cottage cheese. [It's okay if a little of the juice is on the fruit.] Stir together the cottage cheese and the fruit. Sprinkle the jello over the mixture and stir together. Add the cool-whip and fold together. Chill for at least an hour.
