So sick and so scared. Can anyone help? (some TMI) ***UPDATED***

We went to a different ER last night. They didnt keep me , but they called the GI people downstairs to see me. He was very conserned and set up an appointment for me on Thursday. His office is considering the ER consult as my referral. He said it was simply unacceptable that no one has done anything for this until now, and he is going to fix it. He had them draw all my bloodwork in the ER last night , inluding things for celiacs etc even though he said with a gluten free , dairy free diet , thats not a likely diagnosis. he htinks I have Crohns and have had it for years with docs just telling me I have IBS , because the symptoms were relatively mild. I am going to go into his office , they are going to do a bunch more tests including Ph probe and colonoscopy. Finally something is going to be done about this . I will get on the right meds and treatments. The doc did say my diet really wasnt a factor, that no matter what I ate it wasnt going to help anything, but that I wasnt going to have to give up my preferred diet, that as long as it was nutritionally sound it was fine with him. I am just glad we are going to get all of this sorted out. I am sick of being sick and tired.

For the last 5 weeks or so , I have been so sick its crazy. I have watery , mucousy , bloody stool , I am passing out tons of undigested food, I am throwing up , I am having severe reflux problems so bad my chest and throat feel like they are burning , and i often throw up nothing but acid and bile. I have now lost almost 17 lbs without even trying. I am seriously scared.I have had these issues now off and on for a few years, but never like this. The pain is constant and miserable. Before this I would have a day where my stomach hurt, and I had the runs or something , but nothing that went on for weeks on end.

I have seen several doctors over the years about this , without any tests etc, they say I have Irritable Bowel and to lay off the cheeseburgers, pizza etc and I will be fine. I am a vegan , so I dont eat that kind of stuff, and we also eat gluten free. The last 4 weeks , I have been to 3 different doctors all which refused to send me to a gastroenterologist (my insurance requires a referral, and there is NO WAY I can pay for a specialist out of pocket, I have called several) , but they have given me tums and immodium. I have been to the ER now 2 times and they wont admit me to the hospital , nor will they help me see a specialist. I am seriously conserned that I am really sick , and I am being ignored. I have had numerous conversations with my insurance company as well. Today has been the worst day yet. I can barely function at this point enough to do my regular household chores. I am afraid to leave my house, because I never know when I will need the bathroom in an emergency. I should mention that my Daughter has Crohns Disease , so there is a family history of severe GI issues, and even THAT is being ignored. I am really scared, especilly with the weight loss and bloody mucus in my stool. I have 2 kids that I can barely care for , dogs that I can barely care for , and everyone mecial I have seen, seems to think I just need some TUMS. We are right now trying to decide if we need to go back to the ER or what we should do because clearly the people I have been seeing about this have been no help. Does anyone have any clue or advice as to what I can / should do? I am seriously miserable.

i'm really sorry that you're going through this. i second the opinion that you should go to the ER... and i hope they actually figure it out this time...otherwise, i don't have a clue what it could be. but here's a nice bump for anyone that might know. :)

What the hell is wrong with the doctors you are seeing? Who treats your daughter for her Crohn's disease, can they refer you?

I have 2 things that may work

1- call an ambulance, that will force the ER to pay more attention to you. Sad but true.

2- go to an urgent care doctor for the referral. I had to do this when my regular doc would not give me one. The urgent care doctor did it no problem.

Well go to the ER again. If you still can't get help, do what my mom did. She was having issues and her Dr.s couldn't figure out the problem so she made an appointment at the mayo clinic.

I called him and he reffered me to a colleague of his , the trouble is I can afford the visit without my insurance. they want a $25 co pay , under my Insurance . Without my insurance it will cost several thousand dollars, with the exam , bloodwork and various tests. I simply cant afford it, I dont know many people that could.

Oh you poor thing! I have had similar bouts in the past...I've been diagnosed with I.B.S & something called gastroparesis....my stomach has a really hard time digesting food, & pushing it into my intesines. My stomach always hurt, ALWAYS! I was on a medication that worked well, but wasnt tested by the FDA, & then I couldnt find the medication anymore. I've been on Miralax, which has helped alot. I understand about the cost of the specialists too, maybe you could look up your symptoms online & see if there are any self help tools out there. I wish you the best of luck momma, & keep us posted.

Well, it's obvious you need to seek out a new doctor to treat you.

But I would be using the power of the press to get someone to treat you better. No doctor/hospital wants bad publicity. You are exhibiting symptoms that even WE can see are serious, they should be doing more than giving you TUMS. Get into the ER and if they refuse to treat you properly, assure them that you'll make sure the local news spells their names properly.
