If you have tried inviting people to your house twice and they agreed and then change their mind at the end with an excuse

I don't think I am going to invite them anymore in my son's bday because it would just be a waste of time and effort.

If their excuse was legit, then yes.  If you felt they were just blowing you off, then no.

 depends on what the excuse was and what the next reason for thinking about inviting them is

the thing is, they agreed twice to come. They could have said,"I'll check my schedule first and let you know if I could come" Turns me off when people can't keep their word.

I agree. Mine is just an effort to become nice and to get to know them.
