Hmmm...I think we started reading Harry Potter at about six years old.  I read to him while he soaked in the bathtub before bed.  He loved it! :)

My daughter is turning 5 next week and we started a little while ago.  We are in the middle of Stuart Little.  She enjoys it, but her sisters (turning 4 in July) aren't nearly as enthused.

Quoting iluv2meow:

what are chapter books

Longer books that have chapters in them, as opposed to short story books.

My son is 2.5 and he usually asks me to read him what ever books I'm reading, if they're appropriate the I sit him on my lap and read him my book. On occasion he will let me read chapter books to him(we just started reading junie b jones)
Mostly we just read books with a lot of words but upon request we read chapter books.
