confused about switching to solids PIOG

My DD is about 5 months now and her doc wants her to start eating solids. She told me to start infant rice cereal, and once she gets used to that, introduce baby food. I heard you had to start with fruits, then do veggies. I have been feeding DD some inf rice cereal once in the morning and then once at night before bed. The rest of the feedings are just formula. I dont know when to start feeding her baby food and what to start with. And how often do I feed her? And do I give her formula with it? Before or after? I didn't really get to ask the doc because she is always rushing around and I always forget to ask the most important questions. I just wanna know how yall introduced your baby to solids. What baby food did you start with? How often did you feed her/him? How long did you feed cereal until you switched to baby food? When did you start feeding your baby finger foods? I am just really curious about the whole food transition...

We started with rice cereal and then the green veggies.  Sometimes if a baby /child has the sweet fruits or veggies first they wont want to try the others.  DD was nursed so i would give her baby food as a snack vs a full meal.  We also started just blending whichever veggies we had here instead of buying the jars.

You don't have to start with cereal. You don't have to feed them cereal at all. In fact, you don't have to start solids until you and your baby are ready to. Just because the Dr tells you to, doesn't mean that you have to. Some parents don't start solids until well after 8 months. The website I use that tells you what foods are good to start with and at what ages is:

It's been a LIFESAVER for me.

Good luck!

I started my baby with veggies once a day for the first week then moved on to two meals the second week (which we're in). Next week we will go for three times a day, we usually give her food first then she gets a bottle. I haven't given her cereal yet.
