Pectus Carinatum AKA Pigeon chest. does anyone know anyone with it? (alittle long) UPDATE IN RED WENT TO THE DOCTOR

DS's left side of his chest sticks out pretty far, i did research and the only thing having to do with chest poking out is "pigeon chest" . i am so worried about my lil man. he goes to the doc on Friday so they can let me know what exactly it is.. i looked back on pics when he was younger (he is 2 1/2 now) the start of it seemed to be around 15 months but wasn't showing as much as now. DH and I noticed it 2 1/2 weeks ago when he was in the hospital but he was laying on a slant and sideways so i didn't think much of it.

while changing him into night clothes Friday night i noticed it and it bothered me, called his pedi's office and set up an appointment tried for today but they said Wednesday i watch a lil one on wed and don't get her car seat so they made it for Friday but of course if i need to go in sooner due to breathing problems or high fever they told me don't hesitate to bring him in.

i was wondering if anyone knows any who has/had it?

thank you ladies

SO WE WENT TO THE DOCTOR AND MY RESEARCH WAS RIGHT HE HAS WHAT IS CALLED PIGEON BREAST. HE HAS TO GET CHEST X-RAYS DONE AND AFTER THAT HE HAS TO GO TO A HEART SPECIALIST AND LUNG SPECIALIST TO MAKE SURE ITS NOT AFFECTING HIS HEART AND LUNGS. THE X-RAY WILL BE DONE TODAY (HOPEFULLY) AND THEN THE OTHER TESTS WILL FOLLOW SHORTLY AFTER. HE ALSO CONFIRMED THAT DS HAS EXCERCISE INDUCED ASTHMA WHICH IS CAUSED BY THE PIGEON BREAST. I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED AFTER ALL THE TESTS.

Just wait and see what the doc says. It may be something completely different.

My DS is 6. He doesn't have Pigeon Chest, but he has a chest wall defect.. The left side of his chest sticks out farther than the right. He has been to a specialist and they said it's not uncommon, and it isn't a big deal. Thsy said it's just how is sternum was made (something about more cartlidge or bone in one certain area). They said if he starts having more problems out of it in the future (around puberty), then they may need to look further into some sort of treatment for it, but for now it's okay.  It doesn't cause him any pain, or problems breathing at all.. We just keep an eye on it to make sure it's not getting drastically worse.

thank you momma, i was just worried because I just noticed it being real bad and i read that it gets worse as they get older. he has exercise induced asthma (running around gets him coughing and wheezing). which i read is somewhat of a side affect of pigeon chest. thank you again tho because now i can think positive about it and keep telling myself its nothing serious...

My brother had the opposite problem due to open heart surgery when he was 3 months old. His chest, even now, caves in in the middle. He breathes just fine. Sorry I cant help with your individual situation tho. Good luck mama
