omg......i think my kid is racist.

so my son is 3, he developmentaly and speech delayed with processing sensory disorder. so anyways, hes in a toddler developmental group until august and than in september he will be in a special needs pre-school. he has 3 AA kids in his class, one of which i dont know what happened to but he just stopped coming. now suddenly every AA he sees he runs up to and yells the kids name and tries to hug them. i feel horrible! can he not tell the difference? is he racist?!

 Hugging a child is racist?

Maybe I'm confused.

A 3 year old doesn't have the thinking capacity to be a racist without being taught that something is wrong with people of other color.

Maybe he just doesn't fully remember what the little boy looked like so now he just groups all african american boys to be THAT boy. Maybe he had made friends with that kid and misses him?

Ummm, no...He's a 3 year old who hasn't had much interaction with children of different races, and he is trying to distinguish who is who and where his friend is.

Racism doesn't HAVE to be bad. That's just the connotation we've given it over the years.
