Need some 'medical' help

My daughter is nearly 3mo old and has exema really bad, as does her father. Her father's skin seems to respond well to his medicated cream when he actually uses it. Her's on the other hand does not. We put the cream on her once daily as directed, give her short cool baths, and put thick aveeno baby lotion on her. None of it seems to be working. We have an appt the 19th, if her skin is not clear by then we will have to see a specialist. Do any of you mommies have any advice that could help me, any home remidies that worked for you? Her skin is to the point where it cracks and scabs, she cries out in pain. I am desperate, I just want her to feel better.

Frequently eczema is caused by allergies.  If she's breastfed, have you considered eliminating milk and soy from your diet for 6 weeks?  If she's formula fed, have you considered a trial on a hypoallergenic formula, such as Nutramigen, for several weeks?  My nephew's eczema cleared up greatly on Alimentum, then came back when they reintroduced milk at 12 months, but my sister refuses to see the link.  Anyhow, DS had an awful face rash which also cleared up when we switched to Nutramigen.
I would absolutely explore a possible link between her eczema and diet.

do you bottle feed? if yes did you try to change her formula to see if that helps to clear up her skin. or if you breast feed are you on a lactose free diet?

We used hydrocortizone cream with a layer of triple cream on top to lock in the hydrocortizone.
