the reason they don't want you to go to sleep after a possible concussion is because of the coma risk.

Do you have to have been knocked out in order to have a concussion?

No a good wack to the head can cause a concussion

You do not need to lose consciousness to have a concussion.  You can receive anesthesia after a concussion depending on its severity.  Your brain requires less oxygen when it's under anesthesia, barbituates, sodium pentathol, and pentabarbitol can accomplish this with little risk.

Ok, thanks. I was wondering cause I'm going in for oral surgury tomorrow and I'm getting put under. I hit my head REALLY bad Friday and I'm not sure if I have a mild concussion or not. Just a bad headache and a little nausea since then, but I was wondering if I should go get cleared by a doctor or if it would be a waste of my time and thiers? I hate to go and have it turn out to be nothing.
