Is Catholicism and Christianity the same thing?

Christianity is the type of faith, Catholicism is the type of denomination under the Christian faith.

no.  Catholics are Christians, but not all Christians are Catholic.  As far as Christianity goes, you're either Catholic or Protestant.  From there, if you're Protestant, there are many denominations to choose from.
