# Anyone know algebra?

My son is doing his math homework, and I can't be there to help him because I am at work. He told me what the problem looks like, but for the life of me I can't figure out the answer unless you can have a decimal in a fraction. I can't write the problem like it is in the book because of the way the script is able to be written on the boards, so I will attempt to describe it:

Z over 7 = one over nine

How do I find the answer?

does it look like this:

z/7 = 1/9

cross multiply

Z * 9 = 7 * 1

Multiply 1 and z then 7 and 9 you get z=63 I think that is right

this is a stretch, but cross multiply and divide?  That gives me a decimal though, and I don't think you can have a decimal in a fraction.

That doesn't make sense to me. Maybe if I saw the problem in person or written I might be able to do it. Are you sure it's not z/72 or something like that?
