After a discussion with my doctor she has recommended this to be the best form of birth control for my body/situation (Mirena is not an option for me)...

Comments? Thoughts? Concerns? Opinions?

Any and all welcome.

Thanks Mamas!

Mirena wasn't really an option for me either. I have the paraguard and have no complaints. I've had it for almost a year now.

Didn't have any problem when i had mine. I hate birth control with hormones so this was one of my only options. Only thing was when i was on it  I had heavier periods. Not on it now because we're trying for another baby. Hope that helps.

Thanks... I must say I am a little worried about sticking a piece of copper in my body... but My doctor says it is safe and I cannot find any side effects other than the bleeding and cramping.. Which is a bummer since it has been alleviated since I am had my children...

I absolutely love mine. My dr recommended it after I said I wanted my tubes tied lol- they refused because I was so young when I had my kids (20) and now I'm glad they did.

Anyways, I have never had a problem with it. I love the fact that it is non hormonal because I am a crazy person when artificial hormones are in me. It also helps SO and I be more spontaneous. No need to worry about a condom or if I took my pill on time.

I have noticed a slightly heavier period though. But that has been the only side effects for me.

i had it for 17 months before i was ready to cut my uterus out just to make it go away. it hurt ALL THE TIME. it moved, it stabbed. i couldnt walk sit squat bend over anything without haivn git stab me or grind against something. my period came every 18 days and lasted 10-11 days. and during that period i was pouring blood. like i could sit on the toilet and it was pour/drip out. also the cramps with an IUD are diabilitating. I found myself curled in a ball on the floor crying more times than i can count. i had it checked multiple times by different drs and they ALL said it was i correctly and hadn't moved. my midwife told me that there was no way the IUD was causing me so much pain because you can tfeel the inside of your uterus. but she took it out....gasp the pain STOPPED!!! I will never ever eever ever ever get one again

I used to have terrible cramps before having my kids... like can't get out of bed cramps for 2-3 days with my periods. Since having the IUD in, I have no more cramps!!! Not sure if it is from giving birth or having the IUD though, but I noticed it after I had the IUD put in. There will be some cramping and spotting when it is first put in so definitely wear a pad or panty liner.

I had one of these when I was 22! I am sure this is a very rare occournance but who knows, maybe not! Anyways, I bled HEAVY and had lots of cramping. After I'd had it for idk maybe 6 months, maybe 8- I was in the bathroom one day and felt this crazy internal pain. I dropped to the floor and almost passed out COLD. I managed to drag myself up on the toilet, reached up in there, grabbed the strings and pulled it out! The pain instantly stopped. I went to the ER and they gave me an exam, looked at the IUD and said it had pinched me. It pinched my Uterus! So, never again. I got the Mirena after that and had a problem with it slipping up. My uterus is slightly tilted to the left (so my c-section scar is tilted to the right lol) but I have NO cervical abnormalities. Beware!!
