Natural birth after c-section safe?

I had a c-section with my frist child and I am pregnant with my 2nd. I have always heard if you have had a c-section that you cannot have natural birth due to risks. My Dr. says the risk are low and is encouraging me to have natural birth. Has anyone ever gave natural birth after a c-section, if so what was your experience?

I did it with the last three children I had, the second one was 18 months after the C-section.  My doctors never questioned me or denied me the right to have a VBAC until I ran into one nutcase with my last pregnancy.  I seen him once and only once because he wanted to schedule me for a C-section before he even confirmed I was pregnant!

Sounds like her dr is on board with it though.

Vbacs are safe :) visit ican.org (I believe that's the site) for some great info on vbacs.

I VBACd in a hospital, I fought like hell for it to be natural but I got it! No iv, no AROM, no pitocin no meds. It's not easy but you can have it.

It depends on your dr & the reasons behind having a c-section the first time.  I had a c-section but my dr already told me that next time she would encourage a vbac.

well i look at it like this..if she does not labor how they want her too, they may shove her the pitocin...

if te pirtocin puts baby in distress she may end up in the OR.

she will have to look into all her rights..

im glad her doc is on board...

depends why you had it the first time and if you had any complications after. I had a csection with my daughter because there was literaly no choice, I had a midwife and even she said there was no way, the baby had to be out NOW so they did the csection. Anyway, I ended up with a hernia (not the doctors fault) and because of that I will not be able to have a vbac...... Just depends, but if your doctor is on board then as long as no complications again you should be fine.
