So, I was getting out of the shower and my husband was giving our daughter her snack... those little Gerber Cereal Bars (the soft ones with fruit inside). I hear her start coughing... I just figured she choked a little bit and would cough it up. NOPE! She kept coughing and coughing and then stopped... no sound was coming out. My husband did the heimlich on her... He put her over his knees and was pounding her back, that thing WOULD NOT come out. She started turning blue so he sat her up and dug it out of her throat! I was in a panic & trying to dial 911 on his stupid phone that I barely know how to work! I know I was screaming "get it out!!" He got it out when he dug in her throat which he and I both know you are not supposed to do but the heimlich was really NOT working. She was gasping for air! I have never been so terrified in my life. I don't know how many of you remember but I posted over a month ago about being scared to feed her solid foods just because of this particular thing. My worst nightmare came true today & I am so thankful she is ok.
I took her to the doctor this afternoon just to have her looked at. Doctor said she is fine, breathing normal and everything. Go figure though she had a temp when we got there and has an ear infection. I can' tell you the fear I felt though... it was like nothing I have ever felt in my life. She took 20 years off my life today.
I know what you mean....those few seconds of silence feel eternal......BUT glad she is OK :-)
It really did. I was so upset because I couldn't figure out his damn phone either... he has a droid & I couldn't even get it to the "dialing pad". I was like OMG this thing is a piece of shit in an emergency!!

That is so scary. Glad she is ok. But I didn't think that was the heimlich manouver.
chocking is so scary! My 2 year old did that with a grape. I had JUST stopped cutting them in half because she was so good eating them without a problem. Well she took that opportunity to suck it in her mouth with her head tipped back. She coughed once then silence. Her eyes got really big and I was over there REALLY fast! I tipped her down over my knee and pounded her on the back and out it came. I scared her and pounded a little hard I think and she cried for a bit. She was just fine 10 minutes later and eating her CUT grapes.
