When there is mountains of evidence supporting the idea that some thing in particular can happen to anyone, why do people always feel the need to say, "Nuh uh! Not! I would NEVER do that, that would NEVER happen to me"?

I like when people who don't have kids say "my kid will NEVER act like that." lol Or I will never let my kids do such and such.

They have mountains of evidence that SBS occurs in households of all income levels, all education levels, all races, all marital situations, people who have never had a history of violence and people who always thought they would NEVER do something like that.
