DS Has Hepatitis

He is 2 1/2.  DS is doing fine but the past few days he has been complaining his tummy hurt off and on.  I pushed on his belly button yesterday and asked if that hurt and he said yes.  I thought I better take him to the hospital because I never heard him complain about anything before.  Of course we got there and he said it didn't hurt anymore.

The dctor checked him out and when his blood work came back his liver enzyme functions were elevated.  I think they said normal range is around 15 to 40 for each and his were over 200 for each.  So they did an xray and ultra sound and found out his liver is inflamed.  His liver wasn't structurally damaged in any way though so that was good.

We have to take him to his pedi on Monday to have him checked further.  They will probably send him to a specialist to do more testing to see what is going on.  I checked online at the vaccinatons he would have gotten and he got vaccines for hepatitis a and b so we can rule those out.  I guess we''ll just have to wait and be patient to see what the specialist says.

Online it said people could show no symptoms or symptoms may not appear for weeks or months.  And it could be an isolated case that never happens again and we never know why he was inflamed.  Or it could be something chronic.  The ER said it could be caused by a virus, a toxin, or be something autoimmune where his immunities are attacking his liver.

Anyone else encountered this?

Very scary, especially since he's so young! Hope you get some more answers tomorrow from the ped.

I don't have a response, but thought I would bump you in an effort to keep it at the top so someone who's been there might see it.

Good luck!!

I'm sorry hun. I can't imagine how scary that must be. Vaccines aren't 100% effective though so it could still be Hep A or B.

This. It significantly lowers your chance of getting it but it doesn't completely prevent hepatitis.

My dad has hepatitis and it can be easily spread so I don't take my DS over there.

Yes I was going to say this also.

And to let you know, there are 5 different kinds of hepatitis.

Hope the LO feels better and you all figure out what's going on :/
