Did they have preschool the year before? he has been in daycare since 12 weeks of age.  They have always done some learning activites with him.  We did put him in 4-K because he was really bored, but 4-K was things he already knew except for the reading part.

My son just turned 5 and will start kinder- currently in pre-k. He can dress himself, ride a bike without training wheels, identify most letters and numbers, write his name and other letters

DS was a little over 5 and DD was almost 6.  Both could write and hold a pencil, sound out letters and sounds.  Both could tie their shoes but it came easier to DD than to DS.  They COULD dress themselves but I usually did it so we would get out on time.  DS could ride a bike alone, DD still needs help (she's in K now).  They were both in pre-k the year before and pre-school the year before.  It was a private place that placed a strong emphasis on academics.  A lot of teachers in the district sent their kids there.

Did they know how to write?  Yes.  She knows how to do this.  Hold a pencil?  Yes, she knows how to do this already too.

Sound out letters and sounds?  She's starting to do this.  She is getting very good with words that start with the letters in her name and her friends names.

Tie their shoes?  We're working on it.  Her fine motor skills are improving.  She can finally get a knot, so we're working on a bow.

Dress themselves?  Of course, she's been doing this for almost  a year.

Ride a bike?  The bike we had last year was too big for her, so this is our goal for the summer since she can finally reach the pedals.

Did they have preschool the year before? Yes.  She's been in an educational based daycare / preschool since she was 8 weeks old.

All four of my kids went to kindergarten after a year of pre school. The girls could tie there shoes, and the boys could not. They could do everthing else mentioned though-the Girls went when they were 4-the boys were both 5.
