let them use EMLA cream, its not recommended for use on infants.

http://www.emla.co.uk/gUserFiles/EMLA_PIL.pdf

EMLA Cream 5% is used to temporarily numb the surface of the skin. It is used for pain relief on the skin
prior to procedures such as needle insertion and minor skin surgery in adults and children older than
1 year.

When using EMLA Cream 5%, it should not be applied to the following areas:
• cuts, grazes or wounds
• where there is a skin rash or eczema
• in or near the eyes
• inside the nose
• in the ear
• in the mouth
• in the anus (back passage)
the genitals of children.

They used a lidocaine spray on my son. No problems at all, he's 3 now.

they just gave my son a left hook, sliced him up, & told me to put gold bond on it. wow, this one's going to be interesting! as if i have time to sit here on the computer with kids to raise, a house to keep clean, & errands to run.
