Sex Education in FIRST grade!!!

I received a form stating that my children (kinder and 1st grade) will be presented with "Life/Sex Education and HIV/AIDS curriculum" next week at school.

I live in California.

Is this normal?

What do they plan on teaching them?

The form gives me the opportunity to opt out but it doesn't give me the opportunity to view the curriculum. I'm really curious about what they plan to teach my 5 & 6 yr old children.

I plan to contact the principal on Monday but I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this.

Oh hell no. that is too young imo. Since sex education and hiv/aids are in the title I'm guessing they will be talking about sex and diseases that can come from sex.

I can opt out of the Life/Sex Education or the AIDS/HIV curriculum seperately. I really want to know what the heck they plan on teaching them....

I think the curriculum should be reviewed by parents first.

Oh FOR SURE!!!

I don't want to freak out until I see the curriculum.

I also don't want other kids that took the class to turn around and give bad information to my kids...ya know...kids misinterpret things and spread bad info all the time.

More than likely, its about good touching and bad touching, and other age appropriate things.

And they wonder why kids in high school cant read or spell correctly. This is the reason right here. If i was going to send my kids to school it would NOT be to learn sexual education in first grade. I personally do not want my child even knowing what sex is at five or six years old. They arent mature enough to handle such information. If i were you i'd opt out and so should every other parent because that is just nonsense at that grade level.
