I Made My Dog Stay Out In the Rain

bc hes an asshole. he refuses to go outside when it rains. he thinks the rain will melt him. i let him stay in after he went out early this morning, hoping for a break in the rain, but so far there hasnt been one. i knew his ass had to go. but when i would open the door he would run the opposite direction. he is 86 lbs, and surprisingly agile and flexible for being such a big headed fat ass. this was proven when he bent himself in a U and side stepped me when i tried to shove him out the door.

i left for 20 minutes. just went to the store and back. when we got home, i told the kids to get dry socks, bc our yard and sidewalk is somewhere under ankle deep water right now. ava comes back downstairs and says "it stinks up there."

hmm.

i looked under the coffee table at dosia. he glanced at me and then suddenly found his toenail to be the most interesting thing in the world, in need of dire attention. i went upstairs.

he shit in the laundry room.

i came back downstairs, he wasnt in the living room. he was laying in front of the back door. i glared at him. he laid his head on his paws. i opened the door. he looked out, back at me, back out. took a timid step forward. i braced myself against the door frame and shoved him with my knee. he stumbled forward and scrabbled backwards at the same time. i grabbed the frame brought my leg--still against his butt--forward like i was walking. he slid on the tile and was halfway out. but he was turning. trying to form that U again. but i was ready. i put my right leg in front of his head and my left against his hip and finished pushing him out the door.

slam.

click.

boo ya.

i watched him out the window in the door. he stood in front of the door, under the overhang, looking defeated and puzzled at how this had just happened. then he walked out on the deck. in the rain. closed his eyes. probably waiting to melt. when he was not transformed into a puddle of goo by the vicious rain drops, he apparently decided that rain wasnt that bad after all. he disappeared around the side of the house. i waited. about 5 minutes later, he was back. staring at the door. wanting in.

i tapped on the glass. he looked up, squinting against the random rain drops that were blown under the overhang. i waved. he sat. i glared. he dropped his ears.

finally i opened the door. he sat, waiting permission to come in. i asked if he was going to shit on my floor again. his lowered eyes and droopy ears signaled "no." i stood there another minute, letting him miss the indoors. finally i relented...he entered cautiously, but as soon as he cleared the door frame, he started high stepping and prancing like the horse he is.

he went straight to the rug under the coffee table. at least he had the courtesy to look somewhat ashamed before he rolled over and fell asleep.

That is so funny! Our great dane does the same thing. Most people are afraid of him because he's so big, but he is the biggest baby. He hates the rain and doesn't know what to do if I put him on a chain for 5 minutes. He won't even walk down the steps if he is on a chain. He is spoiled rotten and a big, fat chicken.
