She's 5 years old, 43" tall, and 52 lbs. She's outgrown size 6 jeans. Some size 6x are small, as well as 7's, but they're also too long. Is it just she's overweight? Or is it just an odd stage?

I dunno. My son is 5 and is about the same height but only weighs around 40-42lbs. It's been a few months since he was weighed.

At 5 years:

your child is 52 pounds, and that is
at the 94th percentile for weight.

your child is 43 inches, and that is
at the 60th percentile for height.

without pictures it is hard to say because that would look different on different kids.  I am not one to know though cause my kids are itty bitty.  My 10 year old is perfectly healthy but small at just over 45 inche and 43 lbs.  My 7 year old is 42 inches and 38 lbs and my almost 5 year old is 29 lbs and maybe 38 inches.

Maybe a little ...... maybe watch what she eats and get her outside to play. Or she just may be a bigger child.
