About a week ago a little boy from Michigan was on a field trip to the Toledo Zoo and died. He had an undiagnosed heart condition. He was 5 and his name was Nicholas.
The zoo had a baby elephant born a couple days after Nick died. The zoo is asking people to help name the elephant. They put up a poll on their website with options to vote and choose from.
Some people feel the elephant should be named Nicholas after the boy who died. His parents are OK with it. However it is not a choice atm on the zoo's website.
So what do u think? Yay or neigh? I think personally if my child died I would not want something named after him unless it was a law or something but that's just me.
I was also thinking that what would happen if for some reason they had to move the elephant to a different zoo or put the elephant down for whatever reason? It would be sad to name it Nick and then have to euthanize it or move it.
Quoting P.V.Hawkwind:
I dont think I would care. I would be too wrapped up in grief.
I'm thinking something more permanent would be better. On the bridge to the zoo there are lots of handprints on the walls. Maybe something like that instead..
