PLEASE help. Do you or your SO know anything about circuit breakers?

I bought a portable AC unit and every time I plug it in it works for 5 minutes and then the power to my living room shuts off. I've switched the breaker back twice and now I don't know what to do. Is there anything I can do to make it not mess everything up, but still be able to use it? I'm sick of it being 95 degrees in my house.

Your electrical circuit can't handle the demand.  I'm not sure there's much you can do about it, although you could try unplugging everything else electric in that area while you try to run the AC.

You overloaded the circuit.

All you can do is plug it in somewhere else and unplug everything else going to that circuit.

It's going to keep doing it. It does that so your house doesn't go up in flames.
