Spanish speakers - what the heck does this mean?!?!

What does "lechuza" mean?

My household is having this huge conversation (not fight LOL) about it because Dora sings a song with "la lechuza" in it. I kept asking my husband what it meant (his family is from Mexico and their first language is Spanish) and he said he had no idea. So I searched it up and it said it meant "owl." My husband said that was not right. He and his brother said "owl" is "tecolote" so what the heck does "lechuza" mean?

Is this a case of it being from a different Hispanic country with slight variance in the language? Thanks!

For the Dora Episode it's owl.

She's supposed to encompass all of the spanish-speaking nationalities.

Thank you, we just got our DD a few DVDs of Dora and I never watched it before. I figured that might be the case.

LOL we sometimes have to consult his mom too because she knows so much. I think maybe because she lived in Mexico until she decided to have kids and then they moved here to the US.

So how do you guys say owl? ;)
