We know how picky kids can be about their school meals, starting with their lunch boxes. Every year parents face the daunting task of back-to-school shopping and finding the right lunch kit that's durable, affordable, and something their child will actually want to use. We've rounded up ten of our favorite carriers in a range of prices and designs for cafeteria diners of all ages.

Animal Lovers' Lunch Solution

Young children will adore Built's Big Apple Buddies lunch bags for their cute dog, cat, and owl motifs while parents will appreciate their size (big enough for a sandwich, fruit, a drink, and an ice pack, but proportioned for a small person to do the carrying), and their easy-to-wipe-clean fabric, made from non-toxic materials. New Yorkers, take note: Each bag is named for a different Manhattan street: Cornelia Kitty, Delancey Doggie, and Astor Owl.

Bento-Style Carrier

Go Green's convenient and practical bento-inspired insulated lunch kits have been around for several years, but every season brings a new lineup of carrying-case designs, from preppy plaids to futuristic digital prints. Another bonus: There's an erasable whiteboard on the inside for writing notes and reminders to your youngsters.

Soup and Spoon Set

Kids will love Black+Blum's two-cup system—colorful spork included—for its grown-up feel. Parents will relish the fact that they can pack yogurt and granola or soup and salad in separate interlocking pots. Watertight lids prevent leaks, while a carrying strap and stackable shape make for one dynamic-looking cup o' noodles. The microwave-safe set is a space-saver, too: The smaller pot fits into the larger one when empty.

Day Care–Ready Lunch Box

Ideal for babies and toddlers, Beaba's soft-sided case features all the components necessary for a complete on-the-go meal: a plate, a two-compartment container, an insulating lid, and a spoon and fork. The kid-friendly size encourages self-feeding, too.

Zoo-Inspired Gear

Zebras! Monkeys! Penguins! Skip Hop's critter-faced insulated sacks come with a write-on interior name tag and a top handle that clips onto backpacks to cut down on lost lunches, though we doubt your little ones will let such supercute bags out of their sight. Choose from eight different animals, including a frog, a bee, and a mouse.

I saw that....some can be expensive. BUT you can find cheaper ones.......the only thing about the cheap ones is that you may have to replace them at least 1 during the year

Quoting BetterDays1:

Whoa. $15-$33 for lunch boxes! I bought a very nice lunch box for $7.00

Recycle-Ready Bag

Say good-bye to brown paper bags and foil or plastic-wrapped sandwiches. Kids Konserve's Lunch Kit includes a machine-washable recycled-cotton canvas sack, a matching napkin, and a food Kozy (with velcro closures for toting sandwiches and fruit), as well as a travel bottle and two sturdy stainless steel bowls (with lids!) for a full soup-to-nuts package. The set is so useful and stylish you may even want one for yourself.

Organic Options for Kids…and Adults

We wish this durable organic cotton tote from Grasshopper 510 existed back when we were still packing PB&J's. The iconic "Lunch" style offers a smart-looking, green alternative to disposable brown bags, while the colorful drawings on the "Apple," "Chirp," and "Robots" designs will appeal to the younger lunch set. And since the inside liner is removable and easy to clean, keeping the bag looking new and smelling fresh is a snap.
