I am a brunette and went blonde a year ago.

I had to go to the hair saon every month and a half to do my roots (bleach).

I can't afford it anymore so is it possible to just by a couple of boxes (black) and color over it???

What will happen? Will it catch???

Once you have stripped out the color, you have to add the all the pigments back in.  This is called a "filler".  Depending on how light you are, how dark you wanna be, and your root situation, it could be a 2 step process.  Also, in a salon we formulate your formula based on your hair color and desired results.  Box color is just generic one for all.  Good luck!!

I know I have very blonde hair (natural). I have tried a few times at a hair salon to dye my hair dark...every single thing they have tried, my hair fades back to blonde with in a month or two.
But my hair is naturally blonde, so it might be different.

I've never had any issues. My hair color changes at least every two months or so. I have been blond & went to dark brow & back with no issues.

Not a stylist but, DO NOT DYE YOUR HAIR BLACK! It's the most difficult to make a change from!
