saying the pledge

i realized tonight that i dont want DS saying the pledge... I dont want him to pledge his allegiance to anyone or anything right now.... i dont want him saying words that he doesnt understand, pledging for something that he doesnt understand.

Sigh. I dont wanna make a stink about it in his school- I'm letting it go, so this is my stink on here.

DS has said the pledge a million times since the beginning of the school year.. No idea why just now- 2 minutes ago, it irked me. but it did.

this isnt a religous post, or a USA pride post... its about promising something that i dont think a kid should be promising.

it feels like it'd be me going to DS and making him say "i pledge to go to college.... i pledge to stay away from drugs and bad people... i pledge to work hard and not throw my clothes all over the floor".... MAKING him say something, doesnt mean that he believes in it, or even understands what 'pledging' means.

or am i just crazy?

Sorry I don't agree with you.

I am all about teaching country pride. I see nothing wrong with it.

My children love their country and are proud to be American and are proud to say the Pledge.

Kids do not have to say the pledge in school if they don't want to. It doesn't have to be a big deal. They can just stand quietly and not cover their heart

A child pledging allegiance to a flag whose government policies he knows nothing about?

thank you no.

I get it.  I get a little weirded out whenever I'm in class and they say it.  I feel like its brainwashing a bit.  But I'm also weirded out by organized religion.  I would never have my son stop doing it because I know it isn't really brainwashing him.
