Do you believe that Fibromyalgia is not a real disease??

I have heard people say this.

I believe that fibromyalgia results not from a single event but from a combination of many physical and emotional stressors.

My mom, aunt and grandma all have it. There is at least one woman on here that has it. 

I've never heard people say it's not real.

I knew a woman who had it and it definitely seemed real to me. She had it in her face. She would sometimes just stop talking in the  middle of a sentence until it passed. Sometimes she just had to go to bed. She wasn't that type of person, she was very social. So I don't believe for a minute that she was faking it or anything.

I believe its real. I think some people (all illnesses included) use their disease/disabilities as an excuse or exacerbate their pain to get "something" out of it.

I believe it's real. My mom was diagnosed with this and it's... horrible.

Im pretty sure my momma and the other people i know with Fibro believe it is real.

It would be like saying Anxiety, depression, etc isnt real.

I was diagnosed with it when I was 17. It was mostly in my arms in shoulders. At first I was on very $$$ meds. I told my dr I didn't want to be on them forever. So I started physical therapy twice a week w combined yoga. Now I have therapy once every two weeks, yoga/pilates everyday. I haven't had any "aches" in about 4 years. I feel much better staying healthy, stretching & strengthening to ease the tension & nerves than taking meds. Some people have it more severely though. I do believe that sometimes the doctors have no idea what causes your nerves to flare up -- but that doesn't mean that the flare up is pretend or nonexistent.
