I have my 6 week followup after having Mirena put in last month. I'm thinking of just having her remove it altogether. I had it put in Dec 8, started bleeding around the 12th and it hasn't stopped even briefly. I've heard it's fairly common for someone to bleed for a couple weeks to a month, but it'a been close to 6 weeks with no sign of stopping. Right now I just have brown discharge and it's really gross. I guess it's an effective birth control because we haven't had sex in almost 2 months. Not to mention I'm breastfeeding and it made my supply drop. Ugh.

Damn. I couldn't do it. The whole reason I got it was so my periods would stop, not last for months on end.

If the discharge is brown doesn't that indicate older blood?

I have the para guard iud. It has no hormones. I've had it for 7 years and love it!!!! When my 10 years are up I will get it again.

SIL bled like that for a while and then stopped all together.

I had no period for the first 3 years, and then started having one every 3-4 months.....and then had 3 in one month, GYN took it out then...telling me that it was putting too much hormone (progestrin?) into my system and removal or estrogen supplements were my only options.

It's common to bleed for an entire year.
