This is all very frustrating. I work for a lady who owns her own business. It's a small business. Our work schedule is weird lately so my paycheck comes in at weird times. It goes straight to my account.
So anyways, I noticed that I received $400 in my bank account on Monday. I bought groceries and bunch of stuff for our road trip and gas. Well come a few days later they are saying that their bank teller messed up and that money wasn't ours so we must pay it back. I don't have 400 dollars to just give back to them. I bough food and gas with it! Can't return that.
I don't know what to do. I feel like they are the ones who messed up, they should fix it. Right? Why should I have to pay for a mistake they made.
And the whole thing seems funny anyways. I don't know how the teller could have messed up the numbers. Ours starts with a 1 and the person it was meant for starts with a 3.
Has this every happened to anyone? How should we handle it?
Sorry,though.
Its very easy for a teller to put in a wrong number. I don't know how you could have confused that for your money. Did you look online at it? Was it the same amount of your paycheck?
My bank tells who deposited the money. If it is his check then it says his works name on the deposit. I would have questioned a random deposit before spending it.
Were you expecting $400?
It's not your money...you need to return it ASAP. My very strong suspicion is that your are legally obligated return it.
Are they letting you pay it back when you have the money or did they take it out of your account already?
I am sorry because that would suck :(
