My stbx just called me throwing a fit because apparently he went to file his taxes and realized that he can't claim child on his taxes. I asked him what he would claim it for. He said because it was money he never saw and since it was going to me, he shouldn't have to pay taxes on and I should. I just laughed.

Apparently paying for your child should be tax deductible, ugh.

Yeah. I just found out SO cant claim taxes on Child support. It comes out before taxes so it is not taxed. Nothing he can do about that and nothing we can do about it.

All he should be worried about is that his kid is taken care of. We are grateful that his children are taken care of as well. So we are not really worried about it.

Well it is for custodial mothers...so....he has a point.

I actually agree with him. Granted you shouldnt have to necessarily pay taxes on it, but neither should he.

well it is if you provided and the child lived with you for more than 50% of the year.

however if you are the custodial parent - you would be the one to claim your child - thus making him or her a deduction

If we were together he would be paying a hell of a lot more than 250 bucks a month. And considering that is all he does for ds, yes he should pay taxes on it.

Someone has to pay taxes on the income.
