If you pull a muscle in your neck ??? Hot or cold

My son pulled a muslce in his neck. I have been giving him advil. And icy hot . But should I put ice or hot rag on it ??? Thanks

warm/hot it will help relax it...cold won't do much but for a stiff neck, thats more for like swelling

Okay that makes sense . Thanks. Yea it's stiff right now.

 Cold is for swelling, warmth is good to help pulled muscles and such, it will also help with the pain.

heat helped with mine, but alot of people tell you to alternate heat and cold.
