Child having a mother or fathers last name when.. EDITED

Well I was wondering what some of you think about this situation:
Two people who are not married but engaged have a child, who's last name should the child have?

*I did not really mean "should", I was just having problems wording the question.***

There's no "should" to it. That is a personal decision.

Based on my personal experiences I would give the child my last name and when/if we got married I would then change the child's last name to mine and my husband's.

Father's in most any situation whether married or not UNLESS he is worthless & wants nothing to do with the baby.

I personally would give it mine and then if and when we got married I would change my name and my kid's name.

the fathers. im engaged to my newborns father and we just got her name fixed (it would've started out right, but the state we live in if the parents arent married the baby automatically has to take the moms last name and get a paternity acknowledgement to get it changed...very stupid and very annoying!)

Usually the father's, but like others have said, it's a personal choice.

fathers. Especially since you're (or whomever) getting married and the moms name will change over anyway (usually). Otherwise the baby won't have either of the parents last names once they're married.
