how long does an apartment hold a holding fee for??
Its like we're getting one bad news after another. We finally got info from the irs. She said expect our return within 6 weeks of the 13th. And dh is pissed because he starts school the 26th of March. And that day is exactly the last day of our 6 weeks. He doesnt want to move with the $1200 we have in savings and give my mom our mailbox key because its a 1200 mile drive and $400 of that has to go to the apartment for the move in fee for next month.
Either way we're going to spend about $600 for next month for a hotel because our lease is up and we have to be out by the 8th of next month before we have to pay fees. Right now we're in a pinch and dh is having a cow because he has already paid for school and he cant even start because we're in limbo with our return. So if we've paid our holding fee for our apartment how long do they hold it for? Because its looking like we wont be moving until the end of next month.

Call them and see if you can work something out. They may hold it and apply it to another apartment.
Why don't you just move though instead of paying money on a hotel? I guess I'm confused.

If you call them I'm sure they would be willing to work something out.

why would you have to pay fees on current apartment if your lease runs out? Usually people just go month to month after a lease...

Its a 1200 mile move and we only have $1200 in our savings. Plus we dh doesnt want to wait for whenever my mom wants to stop by our house to pick up our mail and mail it to us.

I'm confused too... deposits can't be applied to rent usually. If u r talking about a deposit. Usually they will only hold the apartment for 30 days. But if they have another one they will usually hold another one so they are not losing money on a unit if its been off the market for as long

1 mom liked this
Generally (in Texas where I did aparment leasing) they will guarantee your apartment/price for 30 days. After that they will hold a spot, but it may not be the unit you looked at, and the price may change, for another 30 days. But call them and talk to them.

Ok maybe i did confuse some. We paid $300 holding fee yesterday for next month move in on the 1st. And on the first we were supposed to pay $400 deposit upon move in which would take care of March rent. I want to know how long will they hold the $300 holding fee for if we arent moving til the end of March?
