will allow their child to throw tantrums while they're out in public and just ignore them and continue on with their business.

I am sitting here at the car dealership having the car serviced with my 2 year old daughter. This woman walks in with her kid and just sits down at one of the tables. Okay, that is fine. But then her daughter, who has to be around 4 or 5 years old, is running around... getting in and out of the display vehicles, slamming the doors... screaming out the windows of the cars that are INSIDE the dealership telling her mother, "I WANT POPCORN, GO GET ME SOME NOW! AND I WANT MY LADY BUG TOY NOW! NOW NOW NOW!!"

.........Now, I am a mother as well and I have 2 little ones of my own. I am actually here with my 2 year old dd who is behaving MIRACULOUSLY. She is coloring (the dealership provides free coloring books, crayons etc... and they even have a movie theatre (with popcorn!) and a section with a play station, tv, and game cube for the kids to play. So it isnt like this mother DOESNT have any options for her kid and the kid is bored...

And the mother.... is sitting on her iPhone... chatting via text message and on facebook. I know this because my daughter called me to the play area, while this woman's daughter was on the floor screaming and yelling, and I glanced at her to see WTF was OH SO IMPORTANT...

This is ONE of the times where I will AGREE that technology has really messed up families. Some parents get so wrapped up in their virtual life that they ignore those in their REAL LIFE.

Ok.. vent over. I know I will most likely get bashed for saying what I said, but oh well... If my daughter, who is 2 can behave in public.. why can't a 4 or 5 year old behave? I mean, seriously!!

sometimes it's hard dealing w a bratty, tantrum throwing kid in Public. All kids are different. If they have some other type of issue (which you wouldn't be able to tell by looking) or a mental issue, they will be harder to control.

I let her throw tantrums some places simply because I refuse to give into her tantrums...so I will "ignore" her.

However I wouldn't do it at a car dealership. Those places echo and people are doing business.

I admit I will straight up ignore a tantrum. What they want is attention and yes, it depends on where its being done. In the Macy's. well go on right ahead. In the Doctors office, I'd do what I could to calm the kid down.

I agree! I see all the time, parents who are too busy on their phone talking or texting...and the kid is running amuck!

I honestly believe a lot of times the kid feels ignored so they are doing it to get their parent's attention.  With kids..negative attention is better than no attention at all.

I had my kids in the 1980s...I often wonder how I managed to parent without all the technology! wink mini

Regardless if there is a mental issue, the mother should not be on her phone ignoring the child. The poor kid probably gets ignored and this is her way of getting attention.

My kid throws a tantrum.... he calms down faster if I ignore him... that said I don't sit on my phone ignoring him.... I just pay attention the my other 2 kids instead.

But she probably wouldnt be on CM if her child was running wild in a car dealership. She stated her child is coloring quietly.
