I am seriously annoyed with everyone that is getting their tax returns back and blowing it.  The same people that are complaining about not having any money the rest of the year...I mean, it's really NONE of my business, but when I see them bragging about all the useless shit that they bought because they got their taxes back...it just erks me.  Especially if they were just bitching 2 weeks ago about not having enough money for whatever else.  Maybe I'm just bitter...I didn't get hardly any money back this year.  Maybe I should count my blessings, because we were thinking that we may have had to pay.  But when one week you are asking for handouts, and the next week you go to the salon and have your nails done, or getting a new tattoo?  Something isn't right with that picture...But hey...whatever...If I were in that financial position, I think I would be saving my tax money for when times got tough again...

We are actually using ours to pay off some of our debts and to get our cars fixed. We did spend about $150 for "fun" b/c 2 of our 3 kids did not have bicycles. We got them bikes so we could go riding together as a family. We take advantage of all of the free stuff around here and since there are so many nice trails we can really take advantage of them now!

OP, what you say makes complete sense and is completely true.  Unfortunately, some numbskulls are incapable of seeing the bigger picture and believe only in instant gratification.

I couldn't care less what people do with it. If they wanna be stupid, they're the ones that will suffer later one when they're broke.

My DF's return was a lot smaller than we thought it was going to be, so I'm considering that our fun money. It's less than $500. All of mine is going into savings. It's going to be around $9000. Someone has to save for a down payment.

We got a decent return this year.  First time in a long time.  I had a baby this year and went out on leave and disability so our AGI was much lower as disability is not taxed.  I have not and do not ever ask for handouts and work full time.  That being said, we are taking our return and going to Mexico for a week with the whole family, including my parents.  I know what it is like to not get a return or to owe, i've been there.

I kind of agree. SO has a cousin who has a gf and a baby. They got a big tax return this year because of EIC and such. Neither one of them work (she did for a little bit last year), she gets unemployment (even though I don't think she should because she was still claiming unemployment when she was recovering from giving birth). The guy (SO's cousin) lives with his mom on housing, get food stamps, is 25 years old and has NEVER had a job because then his mom would have to pay rent and stuff (he has said this). Anyways, they bought new phones, getting tattoos, going out to eat. I shouldn't care but when you have to work to get the things you want and need while others get shit handed to them. It's frustrating. IMO.

I can't really stand to see people do that either.  I saw some people at Wal-Mart with a very old, very raggedy car trying to fit a 70 inch TV into the backseat with someone sitting back there.  I just shook my head & kept on going.

We didn't even get a $1000 in federal; we put what we got into savings.  We owed $9 to the state & paid that on the 1st.
