So tonight our 4 year old (5 next month) daughter, Sisika walked into the kitchen while DH and I were cleaning a whole salmon for dinner.

Sisika says.. "Hey.. Is that a fish?"

"Yes, this is a fish."

"..........A REAL fish?"

"Yes, a real one."

"Oh my.. Well, fish are animals. I don't want to eat animals."

"But Sisika, we eat animals all the time. It's the circle of life, like in Lion King. Remember?"

"Well Mum, I love animals. I'm not going to eat them anymore."

"What about Chicken?? You love chicken.."

"Nope. Farm animal."

"Beef???"

"Farm animal. Sorry Mum, I won't eat animals now, I'm just too nice." and she walks away.

The fish came out of the oven.. She put her head down and shook it slowly. I felt so bad.. lol :( I don't even know where this came from, we've had the "where food comes from" talk a few times. She's so cute, she always says she want to be a veterinarian, but she doesn't know if she could give the animals needles as she wouldn't want to hurt them.

What do your kids think about eating animals?

My kids don't want to hurt animals either. They are vegans. :)

Your dd sounds adorable and awesome. It takes a very strong will to go against the norm like that, especially as a child.

lol aww! Awesome! I'm borderline vegetarian. I rarely eat meat. The thought of it makes me very uncomfortable.

She really is awesome, such a unique and special girl!

They all went through this stage. I remember when my little boy came up to me and said "wouldn't it be funny if chicken came from a real chicken" Ummmm....I have some news for you honey, :-). He was heartbroken, but he bounced back pretty quick. They all did.

DD doesnt think anything about it.  Of course in the meat arena she only eats chicken nuggets and chicken soup that has no actual meat in it.

We raise our own meat chickens. My oldest is 7 and usually asks if he can pick out which one we end up eating that night. He has no problems with it
