You're going to have to file anyway, just go do it.

I was nervous too, but because we decided to do it with a tax preparer and I wasn't sure what to expect. Yeah, never going to do that again.

The chances of getting audited by the IRS is very very slim.  When I had my tax class in college (about 5 yrs ago) I think they audited about less than 1 percent of the average taxpayers.  You should be fine.

As for the Ex, well, you'll know b/c it will be rejected.  Sorry.

yeah and if im rejected ill personally go to OK and find his scrawny little ass. He has no right to claim kid or I and i told him that. If he did he will feel my wrath. LOL

Oh boy....fingers crossed it doesnt get rejected.

If he claimed him, then they would put both your taxes on hold and do an audit, then he would be fined and you would get ur taxes. Nothing to be scared of, me and SO have been through it. They arent as bad as they sound.

Ok. I dont *think* he can because he does not have kids Social Security number. Yup thats right i never ever ever once let him see the SS card or the numbers. Why because i didnt trust him not to give it to his mom.

Why the hell do i need my dads tax info since im a full time student? That just doesnt make freaking since. Grrr...stupid government and IRS bullshit.

Even if you do get audited (we did once), it's not a big deal if you have done nothing wrong.  Just keep your tax info for the past several years (we have everything from 2001 up).  :)  It's pretty quick and painless.  And if you don't do itemized deductions, you probably won't get audited anyway.

BUT, I totally get the anxiety.  We got such a huge refund this year that I was close to an anxiety attack.  Still freaking out and expecting them to take it all back.. lol.. and we also worry that my husband's ex will claim my SD even though she's  not supposed to.. but you just never know with her.. [insert cuckoo face here].  And our luck hasn't exactly been the greatest lately!

I get that way too lol. I speak to my ex about claiming the kids, but I am always afraid he will do it before me. As long as you file first, your ex can't do shit. I am sure nothing will happen, but keep in mind IRS is on a one week delay. I was supposed to get mine January 24th and didn't get it until the 1st.
