It should be illegal to sell used car seats!

It's too much of a safety risk! The only person who really knows what happened to that seat is the original owner. People lie all of the time. Consignment shops will take them if they're less than 3 years old, but they don't really know is the seat was in an accident. On top of that, why would any one trust some one on craigslist to be honest? All they care about is getting the money. It's too much of a safey risk! That is NOT a risk I would even consider taking. New car seats from Walmart can usually cost about the same amount as a used car seat at a consignment shop. Why would you take the chance? Just doesn't make any sense to me.

I think passing a law against selling used seats is rather ridiculous (and complete overkill).   But parents certainly need to use common sense.   I would NEVER buy a used carseat.

why, it is now illegal for a resale shop to sell drop side cribs, I don't see a  ban on car seats as being any different.

It's legal in my state. I know some states it's illegal for consignment shops to take used seats. I think it should be made a law.

I agree. It's weird to me that it's illegal to sell a baby walker here (Canada) or use a U.S. carseat, but not illegal to buy used.

That would create an enormous waste of perfectly good car seats.  Why shouldn't people be able to sell them if they've never been in an accident.  Because SOME people are liars?  Then don't buy from someone you don't trust.

In some states it is illegal. In mine it's not and I hate it!

If some posts an outdated seat on craigslist I write them and tell them it should be disposed of. You can tell seats that are outdated, I've never bought a used seat...I've paid about 300 total for 3 seats from NB to 3...I bought this baby an onboard 35...
