Free Will or Fate?

My DD is reading Oedipus The King in freshman English. As a prep for the assignment, her teacher had them research free will and fate. They had to decide which one they felt most influenced their lives.

So ladies - is your life determined by free will, fate or maybe a combination?

Definately a combination.   I do the best I can with the hand I've been dealt.

Combination, depends on what you mean by fate....

I have free will, that means others do too, their choices can influence my life...

I'm going with free will mostly. That's not limited to MY free will though.

I think free will, but I guess it could be fate. I dont think i'll ever really know.

Free will is me making the decisions.  Fate is something that is predetermined.  I feel my life is directed by both.

I'd agree with you - after all we all will die one day (fate) but what you do with your life in between is up to you (free will)

a combination. sometimes you have no control over things that happen and your choices you make also determine how your life turns out.

I don't feel they cancel each other out.

If a mother sees her child walking over to a bowl of candy, she knows what that child will do... That doesn't mean the child is not making their own choice
