Okay moms I need some advice. DD has asthma, she is 5. We have had some crazy weather this week from 75 and pollen falling to 22 and cold wind and now its 60 and rainning. Which has sent her asthma off. I have done the breathing treatment, normal allergy meds and some cough meds, cold drink, pop ice, but nothing is working this time. DD coughted for almost 2 hours earlyier before passing out. She would not even eat dinner and it was her fav. She slept for an hour with no problem but now is back to coughing.....any advice on how to help the cough? Really don't want to go to the ER cause it a mad house and they always say its a cold or nothing, am calling the ped first thing.

*update*
She is sleeping now. Am keeping an eye on her, she is in my bed. She is breathing fine and no cough. I know she is going to need an oral medication to fix the problem. She will be in the doctors off at 8am. If she can sleep the rest of the
night we will be great.

**update 2.15.**
So DD was able to sleep from midnight own with no problem. She was check out by the doctor today and he said she sounded good, just a freak attack cause of the weather. Going to keep an eye on her till she goes next week for test. She begged to go to school was worried but I let her go anyways. She did great, me checking my phone ever 10 sec lol. Had no cough or anything to night, just an early bedtime cause she was soo tired and some sore ribs.

Hot tea. Cold drinks can actually constrict her airway. And tea has naturally occuring cough suppressant as well as helping to open her airways. Add some honey to it as well.

Have you tried steam?  That helps my dd when she coughs.  You might need to move up to the next step like an inhaled steroid if the albuterol isn't cutting it so I would ask your doc and see.  Thats what my dd's pedi said anyway.

I've heard that putting a lot of Vicks VapoRub stuff on your feet and then covering them with socks is supposed to suppress a cough, but I've never tried it.

I find that honey lemon tea works well for my 3 yr old who is on albuterol, pulmacort, and citrizine and also an inhaler......good luck momma...

HONEY.

Even honey with hot water, like if you boiled it for tea.

You can make a concoction of garlic and honey too, but not sure if she will go for it.

Warm drinks help the most...nothing from the fridge, everything should be room temp for asthmatics...no ice in the drinks.

I agree I also have asthma and its been affecting me. Try vicks on her chest and feet. Make sure she's very hydrated, and I think u should try another treatment. I don't know if its bec I'm an adult but the times I've gone to the er with asthma they do like 3 of them. The treatment should help her cough. Good look mom I know ur daughters pain.
