I am the only one uninsured in my house. We make too much for me to get medicaid, not enough to get the shared pay plan and I cannot get on my husbands medical through the military for another 7.5yrs when he starts collecting his retirement. I recently had a major eye injury but got lucky since we had our taxes back. Paid the ER visit the day I went in. Got $4 scripts etc. Had to see the eye Dr. His fee 1st visit $171..paid...the next 4 visits $76 all paid. I just got 5 bills for the IV antibiotic treatments he gave me at $333 a pop. Yeah no way can I afford that. My meds aside from those treatments cost over $300 since they were not on the $4 plan. This just makes me ill, I also am not completely healed and have to go see the eye Dr once a week until I have 100% vision back which could take months, I am at 68%.
Contact the hos[ital /Dr. Tell them you are uninsured and cannot pay this. Ask if they could give you the same rate as one of their major insurers.
A friend of mine had no insurance for her infertility. She was able to get her Dr to charge the $180 that her insurance company WOULD have paid, instead of the $300 uninsured rate.
Asking can never hurt (particularly if you can pay the lesser amount)

I am going to contact them. I have already been paying off some other stuff from years ago...so not sure since its been a slow process. It just kills me how much this stuff costs. Really!!
Your husband is int he Military and they will not let him enroll you into Tricare? That does not sound right to me.

My husband was in the military, he recieves VA care until he is 60...in 7 yrs, then I can get Tricare also.
It is way over priced, but they have to pay for dealing with insurance and the people who can't pay. Glad to hear you are paying for what you can. As said before, go to them and say you need better prices. They will take something over nothing.

Erika..
Children are a blessing and are never inconvenient.............
Huh? I am just trying to figure this out. Sorry!
So he was in the military and got out. He recieves disability through the VA, but he is not recieving retirement for another 7 years? What is his disability rating? (if you do not mind me asking I know it is a personal question) Did he get hurt and had to be put out? If he retired than he should be recieving that pay now and not in 7 years. My brother was medically retired from the Army and will be getting his payments immediately as well as his family can be on the insurance. It does not make sense why you have to wait! That is crazy.

Oh and when he is 60 he will no longer get VA care? did he do a settlement type thing? Usually if you get VA care you get it for life. I do and I am only 30%

The hospital I go to for my dr visits, etc, offers charity care for 6 months at a time so if I had an emergency I am covered..

He was in the Marines for 6 yrs and then the ANG 14 yrs, but since ANG was part time the only thing he recieves in medical. He is not on disability although they are looking into his loss of hearing and knee injury now.
