Would you consider not giving test results until almost a month later
malpractice? I posted in Pregnancy group that I had been given a Gestational Diabetes test, 1hr, on the 25th of January. They told me that their policy is 'no news is good news'. I was told the results would be in the next afternoon. I NEVER heard back, and was puzzled b/c they also goofed up and gave me a 100gram glucose for the 1hr and when I got home I did some research and it is only suppose to be 50gram glucose for the 1hr.
I decided that if they called me back the next day, then I would tell them that they in fact gave the the 100gram which is for the 3hr and it would be hard to pass that in an hour anyway. So, I had a regularly scheduled visit today and yet nothing was mentioned. I get home and they called while I was napping. I called back and the nurse told me I didn't pass the test and that I would be sent to 'diabetic teaching'. I told her about the 100gram, and yet I was also furious that it took them this long to tell me I failed the test. She told me they don't do that for the 1hr and then stopped trying to argue and put me on hold. I was then asked to come in next week for another 1hr test with the appropriate 50gram glucose.
It just makes me wonder what else they might have failed to tell me results on. I will be asking for my full medical results for the entire pregnancy next week. I am beyond mad that they took this damn long to give me results that they got the very next day.
Nope, she didn't say anything. Other than to come back in at my convenience sometime next week. I had already downed the drink when I noticed the '100gram' on the bottle. I was puzzled and yes I should have said something, but I went home and did the research on it b/c I couldn't remember what the amounts were suppose to me. Once I saw it is suppose to be 50grams I concluded that I would mention it if I failed the test. Well, they never called so I thought that I must have done really well to pass on 100grams in an hour.

How did you find out they gave you the wrong one? I guess I would have called them and told them as soon as I knew that. But other than that why were they waiting til the next day. They usually give you the results before you leave, that is why you have to wait an hour. When you told her did she say anything other than rescheduling?
That sounds exactly like how my pregnancy with DD1 was. I failed the 1hr barely, and then made to take the 3hr. I failed two of the 3 hr blood draws but by like 10points each time. I got the same lecture and was made to believe my baby would be huge and would need a c-section. I tested like I was suppose to at home and never had a high number. I began to get sick and losing a lot of weight and had keytones in my urine. I was then told to eat more carbs and even wake up in the middle of the night to eat b/c I was that bad off about losing weight. My DD came out at 5lbs 15oz and healthy except for jaundice. Then this happened this time. I felt for sure 100grams was too much for a 1hr, and apparantly the Midwife agreed with me that they gave me the wrong dosage b/c of how high the numbers came back. I just spoke with them again. Next time, I will not be an idiot and will ask why right then and there.

With dd I had the regular 1 hour test and passed with flying colors with the 3 hour test, they said I failed horribly and 15 minutes later sent me to diabetic counseling. The dumb woman flat told me to my face in front of 3 strangers that I was going to die in child birth and my baby was going to die as well or would be too big to survive ooooor would be diabetic in child hood. For 2 weeks I tested my sugar at home and never once had a high number, at my appt 2 weeks later I was rushed to an emergency u/s because baby was measuring 3 weeks small, turns out she was just small, the diabetic lady told me that I had to measure and track every bite I ate and they were itsy bitsy portions, my doctor , after the emergency u/s said EAT!!! And stop taking my tests for sugar. Turns out, I didn't have high sugar after all, they either switched the test or did it wrong. But the bad thing is I didn't find that out till I delivered and they saw it was marked on my chart I had passed perfectly. However, that was AFTER they checked my baby's blodd sugar 3 times!

She isn't considered high risk yet. She needs to retake the test with the appropriate amount of glucose. If that test is a fail she should take a 3 hour study to be sure. Having Gestational Diabetes does qualify you as high risk but she shouldn't have to be in the high risk category in order to receive the same scrupulous, thorough care that any patient deserves.

Now that you are High Risk, from now on they will be better with you hun. Personally I would have called the second that I found out something I didn't like, why wait? That's was ridiculous but like I said now that you are on high risk they will be better with you. I talk from experience. :)
