This is a spin-off of this post HERE by ChampangeRose about Twilight...

We were discussing if Twilight was continued through Reneesme....

I hijacked her post by going off about how aboslutely awkard it must be for:

Bella already knowing who her son in law is (well when she wakes up in the next movie)
Having KISSED her son in law
Had her Son in law admit how madly in love he is with her
Edward able to read Jacobs mind and read his thoughts about his daughter (you know, when they get to the "dating" stage....)
What if
she hadnt imprinted on Jacob? The poor boys she would bring home for dates :( Eek! Talk about Scary Dad's.....

I mean, it's bad enough that Edward had to read Jacobs thoughts about his Wife.... But now his Daugher??? Poor Edward!

So what do you think>

i thought they said that imprinting means they are whatever that person needs...friend, uncle, lover...whatever. the way i gathered it doesn't necessarily mean you have to be romantically involved but that they will be fearcely devoted to you.

The way I took it as is: Yes, you are correct, BUT I thought it was until they (the one imprinted upon) is ready for the love of the imprinter (is that a word?? well, you know what I mean) I believe it is eventually romantically. Good point :)

I know that I wouldn't want my dad knowing what my husband is thinking sexually(but my dad is not in my life). Now, my mother is quite...prude and won't even say the word boobs most of the time. I can't imagine her reaction to what my husband or I thinks lol.

If Meyer makes this book it will make for a lot of interesting moments especially with Emmet and his famous innuendos!

It always turns into something romantic. Because if someone who had imprinted on you had to see another lover with you it would tear their heart out, I think it would break them. So I'm pretty sure imprinting means they will be romantically involved definitely. I'm WAY too into Twilight...

when i saw this scene first i thought it was romantic but then i saw him imprint on the girl and thought abt it..its the same way a man would talk abt their child too right? if you take out that Jake is talking to Bella and think of a man talking abt the first time they see their child..it has the same feeling.

 Yep, I think so lol.

I can't imagine what kind of comments Emmet would make lol!

I do wonder if they would turn it into a movie like the books even though the actors/actresses are older.

I don't think they could since it would be so many years, they could legimately say Jacob was a bit older since he can age if he stops phasing for a while but they couldn't keep the vamps in it.

True, but they talk about (Quil is it?) waiting until his imprinted one is an adult, They talk about how he wont age until he stops shifting. Thats where I was getting "it will be eventually romantic" thought.

I know it's Wiki - But this is pretty much what I was thinking when it came to imprinting.

When a shape-shifter imprints on a specific person, he becomes unconditionally bound to them for the rest of his life. When it happens, the experience is described as being pulled toward that person, while a glowing heat fills him; the connections of everything else become severed, or simply secondary, and only the imprintee is left to matter, leaving the shape-shifter with a deep need to do anything to please and protect the person.

Imprinting occurs only after a wolf's first phasing. It can happen with anyone, regardless of previous personal feelings. It happens the first time he sees the human object of his imprinting; if the shape-shifter does not react to a human subject the first time he sees them after he phases, that means he will never imprint on that human.

Imprinting can't be forced on anyone, no matter how much the shape-shifter may want it, as shown by Jacob Black trying numerous times to either imprint on Bella Swan or get over her. The same goes also for Leah Clearwater, who didn't go looking around the way Jacob did, but admitted to either wanting to imprint or be imprinted on. How imprinting will be for her is currently unknown.

It is unknown whether the shape-shifter could go one day without being in contact with his imprintee, the separation involved potentially causing both of them pain. What would happen if a wolf was rejected by his imprintee is also unknown, though this is assumed to be almost impossible; the imprinter is deemed to be the "perfect match" to the imprintee; he will be anything they may want or need, making rejection extremely unlikely. Should it happen, the imprinter may feel unspeakable pain, but he will still respect their decision. He also won't be able to find another person who can satiate his loneliness or replace his soulmate.

It is implied that once a shape-shifter imprints he'll be able spend the rest of his life aging alongside his imprintee once he's able to quit phasing. It's also implied that should the imprintee be long-living or immortal, the imprinter may live alongside her as long as he can phase every so often. It is unknown whether shape-shifters need to stop phasing and for how long before breeding.

Stages of imprintingEdit

There are stages to imprinting, especially if the shape-shifter imprints on a child, or otherwise the imprintee is very young.

First stage

If the person is young, the shape-shifter will act as an older sibling.

Second stage

As the person grows older, the shape-shifter will also come to be their best friend.

Third stage

They become intimate friends. Meaning, their feelings for each other are changing into romantic feelings. (Remember, this stage may or may not happen to the imprintee, but the imprinter will fall in love with his imprint. They will not 'see' any other woman or man in a romantic way, at all. Their imprintee is all he/she cares about and he/she will love her/him even if those feelings aren't returned.)

Fourth stage

When the imprintee is old enough, the shape-shifter's feelings grow into romantic/sexual love.

The shape-shifter will be at all times very protective and loving to the imprintee.
