Hey all. Does anyone know...is it safe to drink alcohol the night before surgery? I'm having a laparoscopy for endometriosis tomorrow. I am so nervous and really want a beer. Anyone know?

One won't kill you, don't get bombed and follow the pre surgery instructions. I craved glass of wine the night before my last csection, didn't figure that was a good idea though lol.

What are your preop orders? Lots of procedures advise you to be npo for a certain amount time before hand.

They just told me to not eat or drink after 10 pm. It's 8:30 here.

I personally wouldnt but it is your body.  I would drink a calming tea instead.

I would not drink alcohol, it will make you dehydrated. I would just drink water. I used to be a surgical assistant. And I have had patients puke after drinking alcohol.

Yep. They will cancel if you drink or eat. You don't want to take the chance and vomit under anesthesia and aspirate. What were your pre open instructions?

You can have whatever you want until they tell you to stop. So if it's no food or drink after midnight, go for it

It will dehydrate you and alcohol is a blood thinner. Two things you don't want to deal with while in surgery.

Thanks ladies! I opted out of the beer and went for a run with my dog instead. Still calmed me down like I hoped.  :)

Wish me luck and baby dust!
