Do you have a cat.....?**Edit** I got a kitty!! He is so cute!

I am thinking about getting a kitty cat. I use to have them all the time when I was a kid.

So if you have a cat.....where do you keep the litter box, and what kind of litter do you use? Also how do you keep it from smelling up the house?

I really want a cat, but I haven't had one in so long, and I never had to deal with the litter stuff when I was a kid.

Any help/advice would be appreciated

EDIT: I got a kitty today. He is super cute. 7 years old. When he first came in the house he was really scared/nervous and was hiding in the corner in the kitchen. He was also growling and hissing at everyone :(

He is doing much better now, he is letting me pet him and is purring.  He has already used his cat box, and ate some food.

Now he is laying on the couch with me by my laptop :)

I want to re-name him, and the lady I got him from said that they didn't use his name much so it wouldn't hurt to change it.

Anyone wanna help me name him?

I love cats. We have 3. Our litter box is in the laundry room. We scoop the box 2x a day.

Are you wanting a cat or a kitten. If you say kitten just remember they grow up into cats and just like people have different personalities. My 3 cats are totally different. Only 1 is a lap cat ( which is what I wanted)

I love cats theyre so low maintenance. We use whatever litter is cheaper and clean it out 2 times a day. we have 3 of them but with one you'd only have to clean it once a day. If you really want to help keep the smell down mix in some baking soda that helps too. GL hope you enjoy a new kitty.

I am going to a shelter to adopt one. So it will be up to date on shots, spayed, and micro chipped. Also because I think the best place to adopt an animal is from a shelter :)

I don't want a kitten, maybe a year old or close to it.

I have two cats. I have a box for each cat. I keep one of them in the laundry room and their food. I have a small cut out in the door for the cats to go in and out of so my dogs cant get to the box or their food. I also have a box upstairs in the loft. I use Tidy Cats Multiple cat litter. I have no kitty smell here, then again, when its nice outside, my cats go outside to do their business.

We use an automatic, self cleaning litter box. It's called the CatGenie. We only have to change the soap cartridge about once a month and take it apart for a thorough cleaning every few months. It uses washable granules instead of litter, so you don't replace litter nearly as often. We love it!

 If or when you get one do not buy the same brand or type of litter each time,this way they don't get use to one kind... a good idea for many reasons. Even if you have one cat use multi cat,covers the smells better. With food also buy different ones each time...maybe buy Special Kitty Gormet, then Seafood,then Original...alternate flavors and brands. If they get use to a certain one and then the company stops making it or the store doesn't have it....you may end up with them refusing to use the litter box or refusing to eat.
