So i'll start from the beginning. I just moved a few months ago, its not very big and the closest city is 45 minutes away. I went to put in some job applications a few weeks ago and went into red lobster. I had already placed my application online but wanted to speak to a manager to see if they had a chance to review it yet. I was told by the hostess that she was not going to get the manager and there was no reason for me to bother putting in an application because they would not hire me anyways because i have tattoos and they will not let me cover them..all in all she was very rude. After that statement she said nothing else to me and turned her back. I walked out and when i got home i called back up there to speak with a manager. I explained what happened and she appologized profusly and told me she would pull my application and review it. So fast forward to two days ago and i get a call from them saying they would like to interview me..i was so excited that after 5 months i may have found a job! I drive the 45 minutes to red lobster, walk in 10 minutes early, wait 15 minutes...the manager comes out shakes my hand and starts walking me to my seat when all of the sudden he says "i'm sorry but i cant interview you, we do not hire anyone with visible tattoos!!" I'm utterly disgusted that these people did this, if you dont hire people with tattoos, thats fine, but when i called to complain couldnt the lady have said, im very sorry you were treated that way but we do not hire people with visible tattoos??? why call me 45 minutes out of my way to "give an interview" and then take it back??? Im so mad right now and i dont think there is anything i can do about it. Just wanted to vent
I'm sorry you were put through such hassle. Maybe the manager figured your tats weren't that bad and wanted to see them for herself before judging?
Good luck on the job search.
I don't suppose that she could see your tattoos over the phone.
you had already been warned that they don't hire anyone with visible tattoos. Did you tell them the extent of how visual your tattoos were?
I work in a restaurant that also doesn't hire anyone with visible tattoos, so I understand where they are coming from.
Make someone happy today, mind your own business.
Sorry
I can understand being upset with what you feel (rightly so) is a waste of your time. However, this is the risk that all of us with visible tattoos run. Good luck on the job hunt.
I am proud to be from the South - where tea is sweet and accents are sweeter; summer starts in April; front porches are wide and words are long; mac and cheese is a vegetable; pecan pie is a staple; Y’all is the only proper pronoun; chicken is fried and biscuits come w/ gravy; everything is darling and someone is always getting their heart blessed. Have a good day y'all!
ofcourse she couldnt see my tattoos over the phone but i called to complain that the hostess treated me so rudely about my tattoos (therefore she knew i had them) and she did not say then that they dont hire people with visible tattoos. i have been a waitress for 6 years and never had this as a problem, i have always been allowed to cover them with sleves or wrist bands...like i said its fine if they dont hire people with visible tattoos but seeing as they already knew i had them, why call me for an interview?
I am sorry you are going through this. What you are going through is the #1 reason I make sure all my tattoos are in an easily hidden spot fpr work.
I would suggest looking for a job in bank or clerical work (not teller, because they're in front of people.) We had several women in the big office I worked in who had lots of ink and it was fine as long as their blouses covered it.
