Why do schools NOT listen to parents of special needs students??????

I am so frustrated right now. My son goes to school for 3 hrs a day. He does not go when school is delayed because they wont transport him out of district for 1.5hrs on those days. He has missed 8 days in the past 2 months he has been back to school. He has had some issues, duh he was in placement for a year and is now transitioning back. He got in trouble a few weeks ago where he assaulted another student. It was deemed both kids fault and he got ISS for 3 days. The guidance counselor said Jeremiah cannot do ISS because he needs too much help with his work to sit in the office. Well, 2 days ago, yep 2 days ago he called a kid in his class a nerd and said if the kid didnt shut up he would shut him up for him and got mad at the teacher and called her a fat pig and took the cool down pass to take a wqlk. He calmed down, came back to class and all was fine. Now I get a call that he is suspended for 2 days out of school which means no work since they give students 0s for OSS and now that makes 10 days missed in 2 mos. This also gives my son the upper hand. If he gets mad he will knowingly cause problems to get suspended. He already has no rights or priveliges during the week, he does his chores and reads all day. I have no more punnishments to give him at home. The solitude and lonliness is what he wants. I asked her to come up with something different and she told me her word is final. UGH!!! I called the special services office to set something up, I can feel that this is now going to become a fight like it was in elementary school. Oh and I would home school him or put him on K12 BUT he is court mandatory to go to public school by his probation mandates. I feel so tied. No matter what I do, say etc I am not being listened to.

Its just so frustrating because he has issues, I do not use them to allow his behaviors, but he does have a ton of them. Other things need to be done instead of doing what they would do with a "normal" student.

It sounds like they don't take his special needs seriously... what kind of special needs does he have btw?

I was under the impression that with an IEP they can not suspend for infractions that come from the child disability. My DD has only been suspended twice since her IEP was put in place, last year she was suspended 27 times.

Jeremiah has ADHD, ODD, Bi-Polar Disorder, Aspergers, and possible Scitzophrenia which would be Schitzoaffective disorder (Bi-polar and Scitzophrenia in one, its hereditary and he has the gene for them). He has been on meds his whole life practically, he was in placement for over a yr until this past Dec. He is now in Middle School and they have him in special ed room and everything. I have begged for years for him to have a 1:1 and they keep refusing yr after yr.

Jeremiah has a BIP and an IEP. He has been suspended at least 100x since K.

Wow.. have you thought about switching schools, having a meeting with the principal, cause they are ignoring what can be a huge issue..

You do not "whoop" special needs children. He is in every counseling, therapy and medication and recieves a lot of help. He is mentally sick and I will not beat a mentally ill child, no way, no how. We will eventually get through to him and its my job as his mom to provide those things available to help him. He does not live in our world all the time, so we need to catch him when he "visits". Honestly, do not answer posts like this with answers like this it shows a lack of compassion for special needs children and lack of knowledge of those special needs.

ETA: We used to use spanking as a form of punnishment when he was younger and he got worse. We are now very hands off and he is better because of it.
